Two inventions presented by two groups of students representing the Department of Engineering Technology , Faculty of Technology , University of Ruhuna have won the silver and bronze medals under the University and Tertiary education category at "Sahasak Nimawum -2020" organized by Sri Lanka Inventors Commission. The solar power hand sanitizer founded by M.P.N.S Amarageeth and M.J.U.B Mohottala won the silver medal. The Automated Finger Marker for election founded by R.A.P.T Jayasiri , M.J.U.B Mohottala and U.R Liyanage won the bronze medal bringing the majority of honour of the category to the Faculty of Technology.
"Sahasak Nimavum" Invention and Innovation competition is an annual event organized by the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) to encourage making or creation of inventions in Sri Lankan citizens. From the year 2019, an international inventor/innovator pavilion is set up for exhibiting their inventions and innovations and share knowledge and build collaboration between Sri Lankan inventors and International inventors. The competition is an ideal platform for inventors , especially the youngsters , to showcase their potentials beyond the boundaries of the island.
