Prof. P. K. Subash Jayasinghe

Welcome to the official website of the Faculty of Technology at the University of Ruhuna in Sri Lanka.

In our stance as one of Sri Lanka's top national universities, our ultimate objective is to produce graduates who are intelligent, competent, and skilled and who will comprehend and contribute to the technological demands of the present, the future, and the years to follow.

In accordance with a gazette notification published on April 26, 2016, the Faculty of Technology was formally founded. It now has four departments: Engineering Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Biosystems Technology, and Multidisciplinary Studies. The faculty's premises are in Karagoda Uyangoda, Kamburupitiya, which is closer to the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Ruhuna.

Faculty offered the three-degree programs namely Bachelor of Engineering Technology Honours - BET(Hons) focusing on Electromechanical Technology and Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology Honours - BICT(Hons) focusing on Software Engineering and Bachelor of Biosystems Technology -BST (Hons) focuses in producing Technologists with the knowledge and technical expertise in Biosystems in Agricultural, Biomedical, Bioprocessing and Environmental fields. Since Technology degree program is almost industry oriented, course units of the degree programs have been designed to acquire skills in hand on experiences, fieldwork, industrial training, problem-solving and soft skills to meet the needs of the industry and world.

The contents of the course units for technological degree programs are regularly updated to ensure that students receive the most up-to-date information. This prospectus provides all the important information you need to know about the program, and you are encouraged to communicate with academic and non-academic staff for any updates. The Faculty of Technology is proud to announce the successful graduation of two batches, Engineering Technology (ET) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The faculty observed that the ET graduates have an employability rate of more than 60%, while the ICT graduates have a 100% employability rate, which is impressive. However, due to the financial crisis that the country is facing, there has been a low rate of employability for both batches. Nevertheless, the Faculty of Technology is confident that its graduates possess the necessary skills and knowledge to make a positive impact in the workforce and contribute towards the development of the country.

In 2020, the Faculty of Technology experienced an additional intake of students, resulting in an increase in enrollment across all three-degree programs. The hostel facilities, which can house 800 students (400 males and 400 girls), can be used to accommodate the additional pupils. Despite limited resources, the faculty was able to successfully deliver an efficient and effective educational experience to these students. Through dedication and innovation, the faculty rose to the challenge of accommodating the increased demand, ensuring that students received the high-quality education they deserved. Overall, the faculty's ability to manage this growth is a testament to its commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.

The Faculty of Technology is in a charming, naturalistic environment that offers undergraduate students the perfect space to learn and study in tranquility. The faculty provides a pleasant and picturesque setting that fosters a sense of serenity and relaxation. It is surrounded by lush greenery, peaceful ponds, and a breathtaking atmosphere. Students can immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the surroundings, whether studying in the library or taking a break in the university grounds, to help them focus and concentrate on their studies. Overall, the Faculty's location is unquestionably advantageous because it offers a calm environment that is ideal for academic performance.

I would like to encourage you to explore our website, learn about the faculty's unique learning environment, and take advantage of the resources, services, and opportunities provided by the Faculty of Technology at the University of Ruhuna.
