Department of Biosystems Technology

Preparing innovative biosystems technologists for sustainable agriculture, food production and environmental development.

The Department of Biosystems Technology offers the Bachelor of Biosystems Technology Honours degree programme, providing students with the scientific knowledge and practical expertise required to address modern biological and environmental challenges.

The curriculum integrates Biosystems Technology with Basic Sciences, Statistics, Information and Communication Technology, entrepreneurship, management and professional skills. It covers applications in agricultural, biomedical, bioprocessing and environmental fields.

Through laboratory activities, field-based learning and applied projects, students develop the ability to design and improve sustainable systems for food production, biomaterials, renewable resources and environmental protection.

KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM

AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS AND FOOD PRODUCTION

Develop technologies, machinery and sustainable systems that improve agricultural production, harvesting and the handling of raw materials.

FOOD PROCESSING AND SAFETY

Develop efficient methods and equipment for processing, handling, preserving and packaging food while maintaining quality, health and safety.

BIOMATERIALS AND BIO-RESOURCES

Promote the sustainable production and application of biological materials for bioenergy, construction and other value-added industries.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

Develop renewable-energy solutions and sustainable systems for environmental protection, pollution control, waste management and recycling.

INNOVATIVE BIOSYSTEMS TECHNOLOGISTS
