The ICT Students’ Circle of the Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna, successfully organized HackTrail 2.0, an overnight hackathon, on the 21st and 22nd of August 2024. The event brought together 75 enthusiastic undergraduates, grouped into 15 teams, who competed to develop innovative solutions for the given problem statement.

Dr. Kaushalya Wijayasekara, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biosystems Technology, has been awarded the 2024 Investigator-Driven Research Grant by the National Research Council (NRC), marking the first such achievement for the Faculty of Technology.

A group of students from the Faculty of Technology attended a training session offered by the District Agricultural Training Center-Kamburupitiya for the purposes of the projects on mushroom production process. The visit was led by Dr. Wathsala Rajawatta and Ms. Sanjeewani Thilakarathna.

For the first time in the history of the Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna, the Sports Council successfully organized an Inter-Batch Powerlifting Meet on the 9th of April 2025. This groundbreaking event marked a significant milestone in promoting strength sports and encouraging student participation in competitive fitness activities.

On February 20th, a group of level 3 students from the Department of Engineering Technology visited the "Makandura Tea Factory" to inspect the tea leaf drying process. The visit was part of the ongoing "Development of Surface Moisture Reading Device for Tea Leaves" project, lead by Mrs. Sanjeewani Thilakarathna from the Department of Engineering Technology.
