As a first-batch student, joining the Department of Engineering Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna, was a turning point in my life. It strengthened my passion for innovation and provided the technical knowledge, practical experience, and confidence to develop real-world solutions. My journey led me to create award-winning inventions, obtain Sri Lankan patents, and contribute to industry research and commercialization. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Intellectual Property at Tongji University under a WIPO scholarship. I am deeply grateful to the staff for their guidance and proud to contribute to innovation and technology transfer in Sri Lanka and beyond.

Methdasun Sandamal (1st Batch - ET)

Currently, I serve as a Temporary Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Engineering Technology, within the Faculty of Technology at the University of Ruhuna. The strong academic foundation and practical training of my electromechanical engineering degree were essential in securing my current academic role. During my studies, I remained deeply committed to research and innovation. My work specifically focused on combining mechanical systems with electronic controls to create practical, automated solutions. A vital component of my degree was a thorough industrial training period. This experience bridged academic theory and practical engineering, enabling me to solve real-world engineering challenges. I shared this hands-on experience to help undergraduate students clearly understand how their coursework connects to actual industry applications.

The Faculty of Technology, especially the Department of ICT, has played a meaningful role in shaping who I am today. I grew in confidence, gained valuable knowledge, and discovered new possibilities throughout my journey here. As a 4th Batch student, I am proud to see how my experiences at the Faculty have contributed to my academic and professional growth. The academic and practical experience I gained during my undergraduate studies has been highly valuable in developing my professional career. Currently, I am working as a Manager – Factory Engineering at Union North (Pvt) Ltd, where I manage factory engineering activities, including plant utilities, maintenance, machinery, infrastructure development, and engineering projects. Currently serving as an Executive – Certified Product Safety Officer and Process Controller at MAS Holdings, I specialize in maintaining high-tier product safety standards, optimizing manufacturing processes, and leading third-party global audit readiness across international brand standards.
