The Department of Engineering Technology, Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna, in collaboration with the Faculty Intellectual Property Cell, successfully conducted a workshop on “Applying for Patents” on 1st September 2026 at the Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Methdasun Sandamal, former Manager of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), University of Peradeniya, and a proud graduate of the Department of Engineering Technology, University of Ruhuna.
The session provided a valuable opportunity for students to enhance their understanding of patents, intellectual property rights, and the patent application process. Participants gained insights into the importance of protecting innovative ideas and the key steps involved in transforming technological innovations into intellectual property.
The workshop also encouraged students to explore opportunities for innovation, research commercialization, and technology transfer, supporting the faculty commitment to fostering an innovation-oriented culture among its students.
